Spin the Wheel

Type your options, spin, and get a fair random pick.

How to use the wheel

  1. Type or paste your options in the box, one per line. The wheel updates as you type.
  2. Press Spin in the middle of the wheel, or click the wheel itself.
  3. The pointer on the right shows the result, and it is added to the results list.
  4. Tick Remove the winner if each option should only come up once, for example when you draw names one by one.

Ideas for using a random wheel

Teachers use a wheel to pick who answers next or which topic to review. Families use it to settle what to eat, which movie to watch or whose turn it is to do the dishes. Streamers spin for giveaways, and friends use it for truth or dare. If you need names drawn without repeats, the Name Wheel is set up for that, and the Random Team Generator splits a whole list into groups at once.

Tips for a better wheel

  • Keep labels short. One or two words read best on the wheel. Long names are shortened on the slices but shown in full in the result.
  • Use the ready-made wheels as a starting point, then edit them. Your changes are kept for next time.
  • Turn off the tick sound in a quiet classroom or office. The result still shows in a large popup.
  • Shuffle changes the order of the slices, not the odds, so use it if you want the wheel to look mixed up.

Fair odds

With 8 entries each one has a 1 in 8 chance, or 12.5%. With 20 entries it is 5% each. The wheel does not remember past spins, so an option that just won is exactly as likely to win again.

Questions

Is the wheel really random?

Yes. The winner is picked with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator before the wheel starts moving, and every entry has the same chance. The animation only shows the result.

How many entries can I add?

As many as you like. Above about 100 entries the labels get too small to read, but the pick stays fair.

Is my list saved?

Your entries are saved in your own browser, so they are still there next time you open the page on the same device. Nothing is sent to us.

Can I give one option a bigger chance?

Add it more than once. An entry that appears twice is twice as likely to be picked.
