How to use the yes or no wheel
- Think of a question that can be answered with yes or no. Saying it out loud helps.
- Press Spin or click the wheel. The pointer on the right shows your answer.
- Choose Yes / No / Maybe if you want the wheel to be allowed to dodge the question.
- Press Best of 3 if one spin feels too quick. The wheel keeps spinning until one answer wins twice, and every spin is shown above the wheel.
The odds
With two answers, each one has a 1 in 2 chance on every spin, the same as a fair coin. Adding Maybe makes it 1 in 3 for each answer. Past spins have no effect: after three No answers in a row, the next spin is still 50/50.
Best of 3 does not change the overall odds when the answers are equal. Yes still wins the series half the time. What it changes is how the decision feels. A single spin can seem like a fluke, while a 2 to 1 or 2 to 0 result feels more settled. With Yes and No, a series ends 2 to 0 half the time and goes to a third spin the other half.
Weighted answers
The box under the wheel holds the answers, one per line. Every line is one slice of the wheel, so you can weight the result by repeating a line. Two Yes lines and one No line give Yes a 2 in 3 chance, about 67%. Three Yes lines and one No give 75%. This is handy when you lean one way but want to leave a little room for chance.
Why spin for a yes or no?
Small decisions eat up time: whether to go out tonight, order dessert, or reply to that message now. Handing the choice to a fair wheel ends the back and forth. Many people also notice that the moment the wheel lands, they feel relief or disappointment. That reaction tells you what you wanted all along, which is useful information even if you then ignore the wheel.
Groups use it to settle friendly arguments, teachers use it for quick class votes when the room is split, and party games use it as a neutral judge. For a decision between more than two options, use Spin the Wheel with your own list. If you prefer something more physical, flip a coin instead, which gives the same 50/50 odds.
Good questions for the wheel
- Should I watch one more episode?
- Do we order pizza tonight?
- Should I go for a run this morning?
- Is it my turn to pick the movie?
Keep serious decisions about health, money or other people for careful thought. The wheel is fair, but it does not know anything about your situation.
Questions
Is the yes or no wheel 50/50?
With only Yes and No on the wheel, each answer has exactly a 50% chance. The answer is picked with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator before the wheel moves. With Maybe added, each of the three answers has a 1 in 3 chance.
How does best of 3 work?
The wheel spins until one answer has won twice. With Yes and No that takes two or three spins. With Maybe on the wheel it can take up to four spins, because the first three could all be different.
Can I make Yes more likely?
Yes. Edit the entries box and add Yes on two lines and No on one. Yes then has a 2 in 3 chance. Any answer you list more than once becomes more likely in the same way.
Can I change the answers?
You can type any answers into the box, such as "Do it" and "Skip it", or "Today" and "Tomorrow". The wheel and the best of 3 button both use whatever is in the box.
