How to cancel a Thryv contract (and keep your website)

Step 1: Find out which Thryv agreement you signed

Thryv sells under more than one set of terms. If you pay for Thryv's software (its business center, often with a website included), the Thryv Terms and Conditions apply ^[1]. If you bought marketing services through a sales rep, such as Real Yellow Pages print ads or digital ads, the Thryv Services Agreement usually applies, together with your Order, which lists your Initial Term and monthly price ^[2].

Thryv's help center says it doesn't keep an individual paper contract for every client and that your agreement is governed by its published terms ^[4]. Its terms page lists current and prior versions by date range, so match the version to the date you signed ^[15]. Ask Client Care for a copy of your Order, since you need its start date and term length.

Step 2: Work out your notice deadline

Both main agreements renew automatically and use a 30-day notice window:

• Thryv software. Its FAQ describes a 6-month mandatory term that auto-renews ^[4]. The terms say you must cancel at least 30 days before the current subscription period ends. Periods shorter than 12 months then renew month to month, and annual periods renew for another year ^[1].
• Digital marketing services. These renew for one-month terms unless Thryv receives written notice at least 30 days before the end of the Initial Term or any renewal term, and renewals are billed at then-current undiscounted rates ^[2].
• Print ads. Cancel by the directory's Close Date, which Client Care (844-339-6334) can give you, or print may renew for another issue period, typically 18 to 24 months ^[2].
• Just signed? Both agreements allow cancellation within 3 days of purchase, and the software terms say that comes with a full refund ^[1][2].

Step 3: Back up everything before you give notice

Thryv's software terms say it may keep your account data for up to 13 months after termination, but may also delete it right away ^[1], and its FAQ says your account and website are taken down when you cancel ^[4]. Save these first:

• Website form submissions, which you can export as a CSV file from Website Builder analytics ^[7].
• Your client list, exported to CSV or Excel. Each export is capped at 2,000 clients, so export bigger lists in batches ^[8].
• Appointment and booking history, also exportable to CSV or Excel ^[9].
• Your own text, photos, logos and testimonials, plus screenshots of every page.
• Logins for everything connected to the business: Google Business Profile, Facebook, domain registrar and email.

Know what you can keep

Thryv's Professional Website terms say the content and design Thryv creates belong to Thryv, apart from content you supplied. On termination, Thryv agrees to release your Client Content and your site's URL if the domain was yours originally ^[3]. The Services Agreement has a similar clause ^[2]. In practice, expect to keep your words, photos and domain, and to rebuild the design.

Step 4: Get control of your domain name

Your domain is on your trucks, cards and listings, so protect it first. Check who the registrant is on ICANN Lookup ^[11]. If it isn't your business, or you have no registrar login, fix that before you cancel.

Thryv's help center says customers on Thryv-managed sites can't transfer their domain on their own and should call the URL Management team at 844-339-4574 ^[6]. Its FAQ says Thryv prefers to manage your domain during the relationship and that its website team can transfer it back to you if you part ways ^[4]. When you call, ask for:

• The registrant changed to your business name and email address.
• The authorization (EPP) code so you can move the domain to a registrar you choose. ICANN says registrars must provide it within five calendar days of your request ^[10].
• A copy of your current DNS records, especially email (MX) records, so your business email keeps working.

Plan around domain transfer locks

ICANN says a 60-day lock can follow a change of registrant, and a registrar may refuse a transfer within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer. You can still point the domain at a new host meanwhile ^[10], but start early.

Step 5: Send written notice the right way

Thryv's software terms require written notice through the Send us a Message form at thryv.com/contact-us, including your business name, phone number and address ^[1]. The help center says you can also email Client Care at [email protected] ^[5]. The marketing Services Agreement accepts notice by U.S. mail to Thryv's mail processing center in Fredericksburg, Virginia ^[2]. Include:

• Business name, phone number, address and account number.
• Every service you're canceling (website, listings, ads, print).
• A request for written confirmation of your final billing date and amount, and for release of your domain and Client Content.
• Keep proof: a form screenshot, the sent email, mail tracking.

Don't stop paying as a way to cancel

The Services Agreement says you can't withhold payment over a dispute. If you're 30 days late, Thryv may demand what you owe for the rest of the term and report the nonpayment to credit agencies ^[2]. Keep paying through the end date and dispute any unexpected charge in writing.

Step 6: Switch over without losing calls

A canceled Thryv site may stay live for up to 30 days ^[6], so launch your new site and point your domain to it before that window closes.

Check your phone numbers too. The Services Agreement says call tracking numbers may appear in your ads and in your directory listings ^[2], so make sure every listing shows your real number. Confirm you're an owner of your Google Business Profile, since owners control who can manage it ^[12]. Changed your mind? Thryv's FAQ says it can reactivate an account within 60 business days ^[4].

Questions to ask Thryv before you cancel

• Which agreement and Order cover my account, and can you email me a copy?
• When does my current term end, and what's the last day I can give notice?
• What will my final bill be, and on what date?
• Is my domain registered to my business? If not, when will you transfer it and send the auth code?
• Which of my content will you release, and in what format?
• Are call tracking numbers on any of my listings?

You're not the only one finding this confusing

Thryv holds an A+ BBB rating and has been accredited since 2018 ^[13], yet its BBB profile shows 349 complaints closed in three years, led by order and billing issues ^[14]. Trustpilot's review summary says many reviewers struggled with contract terms and billing, while some praised their onboarding reps ^[16]. Written records of every step are your best protection.
